Divisions ~ Corporate Services
Since the creation of the Department in August 2002, the Corporate Services Division has put in place the foundations and frameworks that have enabled the Department to support its activities with improved information, knowledge and skills and processes resulting in better outcomes.
This was achieved by 30 June 2004 through the:
- significant implementation and training relating to the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, resulting in a 23% reduction in workplace injuries;
- improved reporting to managers in relation to finance, human resources and other areas;
- robust budgets and budget management principles, based on a new version of the finance system and a 'fit for purpose' assets structure;
- significant changes to Departmental decision-making, now incorporating appropriate consideration of performance, risk management, volunteers, procurement and staff selection processes;
- an evolving Intranet system as the core component of a knowledge management strategy;
- significant progress on many wholeof- business systems and process reviews, leading to major changes; and
- completion of the Strategic Asset Management Plan and commencement of associated statutory maintenance, emergency procedures and asset management reviews.
These achievements were made possible by the significant co-operation of all Departmental staff and other Government departments.
Having established a comprehensive framework for the provision of services by the various divisions of the Department, the objective of the Corporate Services Division will be to increase the capability of the Department's business units to achieve their desired outcomes at a high level of quality. This will be done by increasing our understanding of our clients' businesses, providing collective Corporate Services approaches to business issues, tailoring and prioritising our support to divisions, and ensuring better consistency and targeting of our communications and consultation.
