Divisions
The Department is divided into seven organisational divisions: the Aboriginal Heritage Office, Arts Tasmania, the Parks and Wildlife Service, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Heritage Tasmania, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Environment Division. These divisions are supported by Corporate Services and the Office of the Secretary.

Core responsibilities |
| Aboriginal Heritage Office | To identify, conserve and manage Tasmania's Aboriginal heritage assets and to facilitate greater community awareness of and interaction with Aboriginal heritage. |
| Arts Tasmania | To create and promote opportunities for arts and culture in Tasmania, and to provide a conduit for developing a unique cultural 'brand' for the State. |
| Environment | To ensure best practice in environmental management and pollution control, so that Tasmanians have a clean and healthy environment that contributes to its attractiveness as a place to visit and live. |
| Heritage Tasmania | To protect, conserve and promote Tasmania's historic heritage through the Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1995. |
| Parks and Wildlife Service | To manage, protect and enhance the State's national parks and reserves for the enjoyment of generations now and in the future. |
| Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens | To manage and promote Tasmania's botanical heritage. |
| Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery | To promote and facilitate interaction with, and understanding of, the cultural and natural world and to develop the Museum as an icon for Tasmania. |
| Corporate Services | To provide corporate support services, including finance, human resources, corporate planning and administrative services. |
| Office of the Secretary | To support the Secretary of the Department and provide an interface between the Department and the Minister, and to provide specialist and strategic services. |
